Situated quietly near Piazza Carlo Alberto, La Piazzetta has now become one of our “go-to” spots for gelato. I’ve seen this gelateria many times yet, I never had the urge to try it out. It wasn’t until I started planning routes for my gelato search that I remembered this place. La Piazzetta is very small and quaint. There isn’t a lot of room so, it’s best to walk in already knowing what you’d like. There is a small section for indoor seating but the love seat and one table with chairs isn’t exactly comfortable. You’re better off sitting outside in the Piazza.
La Piazzetta has your usual flavors like Stracciatella and Crema but it lacks other classics such as Fior di latte and Cocco. I again, chose Stracciatella and Pistacchio while Carlo had Rhum/ Caffè and Arancia/Pimento. Immediately I went for the Pistacchio and I couldn’t stop eating it. We both decided it was hands down… THE BEST PISTACCHIO WE’VE EVER TASTED! It was perfection: the flavor balance, creaminess, and color- it was all in harmony. Sadly, I can’t say the same for the Stracciatella. While their chocolate pieces were quite nice and not overwhelming, I felt like the cream was a bit on the icy side.
Carlo was a bit adventurous in his selections. Both flavors were chocolate based and the pairing of each combo was a nice surprise. I had my doubts about the Arancia and Pimento; mainly for the fact that I’m not a fan of pimento. However, I tasted mostly the Arancia (orange) and a slight hint of pimento. I actually enjoyed it and it complimented the chocolate. Carlo raved about his Rhum and Caffè. He said that you could not taste the Rhum and the Coffee was barely noticeable.. which he liked. Since I don’t drink/eat anything with alcohol or coffee, you’ll have to take his word for it.
Like most gelaterie, you’ll have to pay for your gelato before ordering. While I was waiting to order, I noticed they had these cards. I just wanted to find out if they counted per gelato OR per visit. I wasn’t able to get my question out before he took the card and signed off on our gelato. I guess I’ll have to go back so that I can get the 10th one free!
